I am doing this because I SOOOO can see the writing on the wall (figurative and literal) as to how this is going to turn out.

According to the Trib, Albert Lea schools are dismissing at normal time, while Glenville-Emmons, USC, and AldenConger are all letting out early. One person has already commented and blown off steam (somewhat incoherintally), and I am sure before school is out (as well as after for a time) there will be more.

Soooo...what about everyone else? What are YOUR feelings as to when school should actually dismiss in the face of "major" snowstorms? Should we close because those around us are, or should we tote the line and make the other districts around us feel guilty for closing early?

As this was typed out, a Glenville-Emmons bus drove by outside...why? I have not a clue...I have never seen one of those in these parts before...

Off to try and unburry my driveway before the next big round hits...

They should dismiss when weather is a danger to the teachers & children/those transporting them.  No significant danger = schooling as normal.  Pretty simple.   A school district should not feel guilty for closing early if the situation dictates, but should not be pressured to do so just because other school districts are doing it.  After all, weather can be quite different over a 15 mile distance.

Isn't it true that the school needs to be open for the day in order to get federal money?

Last I had heard, if school is in session for at least half of the day, then they recieve money for a whole day...which is why most often, you see them try to stay in school until 12:30 or 1ish.
