2014 MN Test Scores were released.
http://apps.startribune.com/no_child/district.php?dst=nonmetpu
Albert Lea Public Schools since 2009:
Math (% proficient) 2009: 63% 2010: 61% 2011: 54% 2012: 55% 2013: 54% 2014: 56%
Reading (% proficient) 2009: 72% 2010: 69% 2011: 71% 2012: 70% 2013: 54% 2014: 54%
Mike Funk was hired in 2009. His leadership is getting the wrong kind of results. It will be interesting to see how he spins it to the AL Tribune this time around.

He doesn't have to spin it, he will just blame the minority students and that's always an acceptable answer in Albert Lea.

The differential between minority test scores and their counterparts is not improving, and that's statewide. What's to spin..?

Here's the spin (note that Dr. Funk had one of his highly paid "cabinet members" field the questions).
http://www.albertleatribune.com/2014...ntaries
The article states “There were no major increases or decreases to Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment proficiency from 2013 to 2014 in the Albert Lea Area Schools.”
Yet it goes on to state “For middle school students, which are sixth and seventh grades, the difference between the state average and the district average is a bit larger. Middle school math proficiency was an average of 55.8 percent for the state and 43.5 percent for Albert Lea. The reading proficiency averaged at 58.1 percent and Albert Lea was 49.9 percent.”
AND
“In the high school, the state average math proficiency was 54 percent and the Albert Lea average was 43.4 percent. The state average reading proficiency was 57.8 percent while the Albert Lea average was 45.9 percent. The state average science proficiency was 49.4 percent, while Albert Lea’s average was 29.6 percent.” So at best, ISD 241 is average. At worst—MUCH below average. Dr. Funk is paid almost $160,000 per year—for less than average results. Wonder what a good superintendent costs?
