Looks like Dan Springborg has resigned his seat on the county board for personal reasons effective November 3rd.

I hope he does well in whatever he does in the future.

His government girlfriend probably dumped him since he lost the nomination.

Right, I heard a few people say that he is a pretty good guy, outside of the political arena anyway; but then again I also have heard the same about Mark. ???

Really, no crap?  Why isn't he staying on board 'til Nelson takes office?  What's the deal anyway?  I guess I'll have to check it out.

He feels sorry for himself because he lost....poor baby...

Not as poor as me paying increased property tax for the next 30 years.

Why would he resign? He could have just not attended the meetings and still drawn his check until the end of the year.

Heres a question. Will his seat just stay open until Nelson officially is to take over?

Or will Nelson take the seat before?

Be nice to see some 3 to 1 votes for a while instead of always 4 to 1.   :D

Liberal, thats a good question. I would assume it has to be just a little humiliating for him to sit up there with the others as a laimduck.

On the other hand, I am glad he didnt just stay on and not attend the meetings just for a pay check.

Depends on his motives, but this seems like the one smart thing he has done since becoming a commissioner.

From 11/06/05 Trib.

Quote
According to County Board statute 375.101 regarding the vacancy in the office of county commissioner: "If a vacancy for which a special election is required occurs less than 60 days before the general election preceding the end of the term, the vacancy shall be filled by the person elected."

Jim Nelson was elected Nov. 2, to fill Springborg's position and said he is willing to take up his duties ahead of time. Springborg's request came hours into Nelson's celebration party and caught him offguard.

Where'd you get this info, ICU?  Was it in the paper?

Also, I believe department heads and commissioners cannot miss three meetings in a row.

What do you mean, CANNOT?

What is the punishment?

375.101 Vacancy in office of county commissioner.

Subd. 3.    Inability or refusal to serve.  In addition
to the events specified in section 351.02, a vacancy in the
office of county commissioner may be declared by the county board when a commissioner is unable to serve in the office or attend board meetings for a 90-day period because of illness, or because of absence from or refusal to attend board meetings for a 90-day period.

Why not refuse to go to meetings and just collect your check?

In his letter of resignation issued Nov. 3, Springborg said he was seeking employment and his new responsibilities would be incompatible with his role on the board.

Incompatible?

Quote

375.09 Commissioner's malfeasance; affected actions are
 void.

Subdivision 1.    No county employment or other elected
office.  No county commissioner shall hold another elected
office during tenure as commissioner nor be employed by the county.

So Liberial Is this to say that since Dan Lost his election now all of a sudden Gab finds him a County Job?
Posted by Liberal on Nov. 05 2004,2:45 pm
I don't know(they never intentionally tell me anything). I just wonder why he doesn't keep collecting his check and just not show up. He could do it legally and there's really no difference between a 4-1 vote and a 3-1 vote.

I've never heard anything brought up at the board meetings, either.
Posted by Montyman on Nov. 05 2004,5:09 pm
Isn't nelson gonna make it 2-2 LIB?
Posted by Liberal on Nov. 05 2004,6:16 pm
Is that just conservative 2+2=5 logic? Or is somebody else leaving the board?
