The men, arrested Thursday night in Miami in a raid by federal agents, are charged with trying to, among other thing, commit acts of violence that included blowing up Chicago's Sears Tower and an FBI building in Florida. Each count holds a punishment of 15 to 20 years in prison. Posted by Wandering Tiger 73 on Jul. 01 2006,11:46 am
This is a nasty aspect of the GWOT that due to PC considerations the government and the media skirts: Home grown terrorists. We have foreign cells attempting to cross our secure borders; sleeper cells that may already be amongst us; and then that nasty little secret: US citizens/residents who wake up one day and decide, "UBL is right!" Need examples? James Ujamma, Portland Seven, Jose Padila, Ryan Anderson... The list goes on. The vast majority are driven by religious ideology/extremism, but we have a few knucklehead mercenaries out there too: Reynolds. Be vigilant for suspicious activities folks... Boy, those terr'rists have us right where they want us, don't they? One thwarted cell later, and our air travel infrastructure grinds to a halt. Never underestimate the government's capacity to induce panic.

You are so right, Botto. The THREAT is bad enough, but terrorists COUNT on over-reaction to do the MOST damage. But then, that's the whole point of TERROR, isn't it? Induce fear, make people afraid, "monkeywrench the machine"? Billions of dollars spent on "security", entire industries crumbled, air carriers bankrupted, billions more in lost time, increased road travel and congestion. Gawd, the Bush admins gotta luv this. Airline orange alert, red alert on flights from the UK. Sounds like what we heard before the last election! Put fear into the sheeple, they will certainly vote for us once again.

So why are we mixed up in this in this crap? because of the Eisenhower Doctrine when he declared the middle east vital to our national interest..That's ancient history, but we still chase oil, black gold, free it up or tie it up who wins? It's estimated this so called war on terrorism will cost US one trillion dollars, but if we add all the economic factors of our present situation the number is much higher , if we would have spent this money on alternative energy that already exists in the form of rebates to purchase fuel efficient cars, electric cars, reduced the speed limit to 55 again. we could have moved significantly moved toward energy independence.. Let the Muslims eat their oil, we'd see how cheap it would get if we'd use our brains and not our Brawn. It's my belief alternative energy sources already exist, but the G.O.P. (Greedy Oil Party) has a lot of fat cat oil company executives looking for that golden retirement Lee Raymond the Exxon Chairman just got ! Investigate Bush and the Carlyle Group, Rice has served on the board of directors for the Chevron Corporation, Chevron honored Rice by naming an oil tanker Condoleezza Rice after her.. and Cheney is connected to oil at the hip.."homegrown terrorists" Mission accomplished Gas $3.19 a gallon and going up... Point some ICBM's at Mecca, and insist that the next time something happens to the U.S. via terrorism, *Boom*.

What I find funny about all of this is how the US is going to open more drilling for oil in the Gulf. Why does it really matter where the oil comes from? Even if the oil is being taken out of the ground right in AL, the price is still going to follow the market. Just because we grow corn in the area, do we sell it any cheaper than the farmer down in Illinois? No, it all follows the market. As far as I can tell, even if the US hit the crude oil jackpot and started pumping like crazy, the price of oil is going to do whatever OPEC wants it to do. Even if we 'boycotted' all foreign oil and only used our own, wouldn't that make the price go higher since there will be less demand and you know that OPEC isn't going to take that kind of hit, so they pass it along to everyone else. If you think the left wingnuts are crazy now, doing something like what you're suggesting might just be enough to push them all over the edge. I like what your thinking. Posted by Common Citizen on Aug. 11 2006,10:17 am
Come on Expatriate, the oil arguement is for the simple minded. I thought you were smarter than that. Can anyone find another arguement? It puts me to sleep. Surely, you must be able to see that what is happening in the Mid East goes beyond the issues of oil? huh? Do you have a 401(k) at work, mutual funds? Guarantee if you do, you are invested in the very same companies you hate. I always laugh at the old oil arguement because, believe it or not, most of the self proclaimed democratic ideolog's in this country are invested in the same companies they love to hate. It doesn't take much in the way of critical thought to realize energy costs will spiral into the economy increasing cost in every sector. Depending on which economist you choose to believe chances of a recession in 2007 run as high as 70%.. Why don't we take these simple logical steps? It might be because, we aren't serious about the dangers of energy dependence. It could also be that our energy policy is flawed and the Bush Administration simply clueless..ya right--G.O.P. Words out. English admitted the chances of these homegrowns carrying out their plan was next to nil. It was just a big show, shutting down airports and all. Bush and Blair need their poll numbers up.

THE PERFECT SOLUTIONHere's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at airports. Have a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you. It would be a win-win for everyone. Yeah...then there is no complaint about racial profiling !!!!!!!!!!!! |
