As much as I despise unions, closing the doors abruptly is not cricket. I've seen the this happen many times over the years though, employees come to work and doors are locked.

That almost happened where I work in the late 90s. Company was sold in a last minute deal on a Friday afternoon. If the deal didn't go through maintenance was instructed to lock and chain the doors after the employees left on that Friday. We would have shown up for work on Monday morning to no job.
