Yep they have, usually it's from a lack of maintenance, the clutch splines are usually what's overlooked. They have level 1 and level two services, level 2's are usually every 2-3 years depending on miles ridden, usually north of a grand. The thing is these bikes are 150k plus lives, you get what you pay for.
^^ Those types of bikes are meant to be rode hard, I broke a few myself (not BMW)in my younger years, one even broke me, still have the scars to prove.
BMW and Harley are two different animals, one for refinement and reliability, the other for "keeping up with the Jone's"
Harley has a problem with cam chain tensioner design, they moved to a hydraulic style in 2007 that extended the mileage before maintenance is required but compared to BMW Harley's maintenance procedure is a breeze.
this isn't your Grandpa's BMW, the old ones made that odometer turnover with limited maintenance. Check out how much disassembly is required on these plastic snob bikes, major money wasted, idgit.
^^ yep, shaft failure (I imagine you're familiar with that ) As I posted earlier, lack of preventative maintenance, in other words, the owner was an idiot like you. If you buy an expensive toy one needs to take care of it.
I gave up riding ten years ago, too many cell phone taking-text while driving with knees- hijab wearing morons like you.
